The restoration of Abercynafon Farm

Abercynafon Farm dates back to the 1600s and was a working farm until the 1920s when the buildings and land were compulsorily purchased by the company building Talybont Reservoir. By the 1960s it had been left to go derelict.

in 1997 at an auction Rhiannon bought the farmhouse, attached stone barn and outbuildings. She fell in love with it having visited the beautiful spot at the head of Talybont Reservoir – but didn’t realise that it had no electricity or running water! The buildings had trees growing through the walls and none of the buildings had a roof.

Rhiannon started in 1998 with the restoration of the farmhouse and with the landscaping. More recently Rhiannon and Nick have transformed the Barn and other outbuildings, and built a micro-hydroelectric scheme that provides this off-grid location with all of it's electricity needs.  

It has taken many years of hard (though pleasurable) work for Rhiannon and Nick, and a team of local craftspeople to restore the property.  Today Abercynafon is fully transformed to its former glory with the addition of a full range of modern conveniences to keep all visitors happy.

Rhiannon and Nick are happy to share this special place with visitors, many of whom return to Abercynafon Farm Barn year after year.
